Tomorrow, our daughter Heather will be giving birth to our second grandchild, a boy, at 34 weeks. It's earlier than we had hoped but below, is what my daughter posted as she can explain it far better than us.
We would appreciate and welcome prayers for the safety of both Heather and baby, as right after birth he will be in NICU. Also pray for Skyler, as he has a lot of juggling with work, home, and new arrival. Ron and Lisa get to have a lot of extra time with Kennedy, so that is a plus. :-)

In the early hours of Tuesday, July 1st (at just 32 weeks and 5 days), my water unexpectedly broke. We rushed to St. Luke’s in Boise where I was diagnosed with PPROM (preterm premature rupture of membranes) and admitted to the hospital for monitoring, steroids, and antibiotics to help baby boy’s lungs mature faster and prevent infection.
The goal was to keep him in as long as possible, ideally until 35 weeks—but we knew if he came early, a NICU stay would be likely. It was an emotional rollercoaster as we adjusted to a new plan and the very real possibility of meeting our boy much sooner than expected.
After a few challenging days in the hospital and switching from IV meds and constant monitoring to oral meds and twice a day checks, I was discharged home on July 3rd. I was to continue resting, watch my temperature closely, continue the oral antibiotics and get checked twice a week. The next few days were thankfully calm, and we were able to enjoy some quiet time as a family.
Today, after follow-up scans showed a noticeable drop in amniotic fluid levels, the doctor strongly recommended moving forward with an induction date of this Thursday, July 10th. So that’s the plan—we’re officially preparing to meet our sweet boy in a few days!
He will quickly be taken to the NICU until he is stable. We don’t know how long he could be there, which is really hard. Could be until his due date which was August 21st. Once he graduates from the NICU he will have scans done and then surgery to resolve the bladder/kidney issues he has. He will then stay at the hospital for a week after surgery.
It’s certainly not the way we imagined things would go. We are scared, nervous and surprised. But we’re also feeling hopeful, supported, and thankful for the amazing MFM & pediatrics teams at St Luke’s.
We couldn’t have made it through this past week without the incredible support of our family. A huge thank you to my parents for stepping in without hesitation—watching Kennedy, sitting with me at the hospital, and helping with everything we needed at home. And to Kayla for showing up with love, encouragement, and compassion when I needed it most. They’ve all helped carry us through an overwhelming time, and we’re so grateful ❤️
