Life on the farm is a beautiful mix of joy and heartache ā one day weāre welcoming new babies, and the next weāre saying goodbye to an old friend.
This week, we lost an incredibly special horse, Oliver, our gentle giant of a horse.
Oliver led our daughter in a carriage for her wedding, helped hundreds of people during equine therapy and was such a beautiful, caring and fantastic horse. Oliver was a racehorse in Canada before coming to our farm.
He was 17.5 hands tall, big, tall and strong, but his heart and personality was so gentle, which made him a very popular horse for most. He was Ron's favorite horse and is missed dearly by the countless people he touched.
We created a song in is honor called "Run Free Oliver." The lyrics are below the video.
Song Title: Run Free Oliver
He used to fly on the racetrack clay, Thundered down lines like he owned the day.
But his real race came when he slowed down, And found his truth on this healing ground.
Run free, Oliver, through heavenās wide plains, With the wind in your mane and no more reins. You carried our hearts, you carried our painā Now you run where thereās no more rain.
Big olā boy with the softest eyes, Strong as a storm, calm as the skies. He gave his soul to every kid, Just by standing close⦠he did what few did.
Run free, Oliver, through heavenās wide plains, With the wind in your mane and no more reins. You carried our hearts, you carried our painā Now you run where thereās no more rain.
He knew just when to nuzzle in tight, To make the broken start to feel right. You canāt teach thatāitās something divine, He healed with a heart bigger than time.
So run free, sweet Oliver, no fences to bind, Weāll see your shadow in the sunset shine.
The barn feels quiet, but our love wonāt fade, For the life you lived, and the peace you gave.
Yeah, weāll meet again, when the pastures are goldā You were more than a horse⦠you were part of our soul.
