From Loss to Love: Welcoming Our Bottle Baby Calf

It’s been a rollercoaster day. Went out to check on the baby and found that mama had passed sometime in the night or early morning.

She was so good to us, gave us 4 babies over the years, and was a stellar mommy. This is the hardest part of having animals. We were devastated. But also…had to jump into action to take care of baby girl. Fortunately we have lots of great resources (people) for help.
We moved Missy Moo out of the cow pen into a large dog run shelter in the front pasture and ran to get a bottle and some milk replacement at the local supply. She had a couple of poos but we couldn’t get her to latch on and drink anything all day. We went and bought a feeding tube just in case. We sat out there and loved on her all day long, and laid hands on her and prayed. This evening after we had some dinner we went back out to try again.
Finally, she figured out the nipple and went to work! 2 1/2 quarts down and we are so relieved! We took her out on the pasture for a little walk about then buttoned her back up into her kennel for the night. From utter soul crushing sadness, to worry and feeling helpless, to relief and joy. We are wrecked but feeling more peaceful and so thankful that God also gives even when He takes away.
We will miss our Moo-Ma so much but are blessed to have a new little Missy-Moo to love and care for.
Enjoy the short video below of bottle Missy Moo prancing, and just being herself, super cute and playful now that she has nourishment.
