Fresh from our garden. Freeze-dried at the farm. Nothing else added.
Our Organic Freeze-Dried Basil starts right here at Back Forty Farms, where it is grown, hand-picked at harvest, and carefully freeze-dried to preserve the basil's fresh flavor, aroma, color, and natural goodness.
Unlike traditionally dried herbs that are exposed to heat for extended periods, freeze-drying removes moisture at very low temperatures. This helps preserve more of the qualities that make freshly harvested basil so good in the first place.
Each 0.5 oz (14 g) package contains only our farm-grown basil.
One ingredient. Nothing added.
Why Freeze-Dried Basil?
Freeze-drying gives you the convenience of dried basil while retaining much of the character of freshly harvested basil. Once the moisture is removed, the leaves become incredibly light and crisp and can easily be crumbled by hand.
It also means you can enjoy our farm-grown basil long after the fresh-basil growing season has ended.

Ways to Use It
Our freeze-dried basil can be used anywhere you would normally use fresh or dried basil, including:
- Pasta and tomato sauces
- Homemade pizza
- Pesto
- Bruschetta
- Soups and stews
- Salad dressings
- Marinades
- Eggs and omelets
- Chicken and beef
- Roasted vegetables
- Tomatoes and mozzarella
- Garlic bread and focaccia
- Italian and Mediterranean dishes
For soups, sauces and cooked dishes, simply crumble it directly into your recipe.
For recipes where you want a softer, fresh-basil-like texture, sprinkle the basil with a little water and allow it to rehydrate for several minutes before using.
Fresh Basil Conversion
Freeze-dried basil is concentrated because almost all of the water has been removed.
A good starting point is approximately:
1 tablespoon fresh basil ≈ 1 teaspoon freeze-dried basil
Because leaf size and how finely the basil is crumbled can change the measurement, we recommend starting with less and adding more to taste.
Naturally Nutritious
Basil naturally provides a variety of plant compounds and micronutrients. Fresh and dried basil contain nutrients including vitamin K, vitamin A precursors, calcium, iron, manganese and potassium.
Because basil is generally eaten in relatively small amounts, it isn't a significant source of calories, fat, carbohydrates or protein in a typical culinary serving.
